Chicken and shrimp gumbo recipe

It is a famous American dish for dinner? It's simple! Try it!

Chicken and shrimp gumbo is made in the USA, especially in Louisiana. Honestly, I was not there and did not try it in the original. I tried only in local cafes

Ingredients Chicken and shrimp gumbo

Vegetable oil – 200 ml
Flour – 200 ml
Chicken bouillon - 200 ml
Onion - 80 Gram
Bulgarian pepper - 100 Gram
Celery - 100 Gram
Garlic 4 pc
Okra - 100 Gram
Tomatoes - 100 Gram
Smoked sausage - 180 Gram
Shrimp - 200 Gram
Paprika - 1 Tsp
Oregano - 5 Gram
Thyme, Thyme 1 Tsp
Cayenne pepper - 0.5 Tsp
Salt - 0.5 Tsp
Green onions – 10 Gram
Ground black pepper taste

How to make Chicken and shrimp gumbo


#Step 1 - Wash the bell pepper, remove the tail and seeds. Cut into medium pieces. Peel the onions and cut into half rings or just small pieces to your taste.

#Step 2 - Cut celery into slices, chops garlic and peeled. In okra (if fresh), cut off the tail and brush around it in a circle. Cut into circles. 

Dip the tomatoes for half a minute in boiling water (make a shallow cut before this), peel, and cut into cubes.

#Step 3 - Peel the shrimps, cut the sausage into strips or cubes to your taste.

#Step 4 - Heat a moderate-thick saucepan over medium heat.

#Step 5 - Pour into it the vegetable oil, add flour, mix. Continue to keep on fire and stir constantly, until the mass becomes golden brown. This process takes about 5 minutes. 

This is an important stage on which the special taste of Chicken and shrimp gumbo depends.

#Step 6 - Add the prepared green Bulgarian pepper, celery and onion to the resulting mass. Add the garlic. Mix everything and cook them until softened - literally about 3 minutes.

#Step 7 - Pour in the chicken broth, mix well until the contents of the pan are thick and smooth.

#Step 8 - Put shrimp, chopped sausage, tomatoes, and okra into the pan

#Step 9 - Add herbs and spices: oregano, thyme, paprika, and cayenne pepper, salt. Try on the salt. Add it if necessary.


#Step 10 - Cook the dish on low heat for 10 minutes.

Chop the green onions.

#Step 11 - Spread the soup on a la carte plates, sprinkle with chopped green onions and black pepper.
